Joseph M. Maher

Mr. Maher received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Kalamazoo College in 2005 and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law in May 2010. Prior to law school, Mr. Maher worked with at-risk teenage youth in Chicago to develop their civic knowledge and awareness as an AmeriCorps volunteer. During law school, Mr. Maher served as a Teaching Assistant and as the Articles Editor for the University of Baltimore Law Forum. Before serving as the Articles Editor for the Law Forum, Mr. Maher published two recent development articles as a Staff Editor entitled Marcantonio v. Moen, 39 U. BALT. L.F. 239 (2009), and Clancy v. King, 39 U. BALT. L.F. 90 (2008). Additionally, Mr. Maher, as a Rule 16 Student Attorney, represented individuals in various civil matters with the law school’s Civil Advocacy Clinic.

After law school, Mr. Maher served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Louis A. Becker of the Circuit Court for Howard County. During his clerkship, he was exposed to a variety of highly contested family law cases involving divorce, annulments, alimony, custody disputes, child support, domestic violence, and complex property divisions. Admitted to the Maryland bar in December 2010, Mr. Maher joined Weinberg & Schwartz, L.L.C. in October 2011. Since joining Weinberg & Schwartz, L.L.C., he has used a variety of methods, including litigation, mediation, and negotiation, that work best for his clients in their divorce, child custody, and other family related matters. Along with being collaboratively trained, Mr. Maher is trained to serve as an attorney appointed to represent children in high conflict family matters. Mr. Maher was named as a 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Super Lawyers Rising Star.

    • Mr. Maher has been involved with a fundraiser for the National Family Resiliency Center's KidsConnex Program for the past five years and has organized the fundraiser for the last three years.  Mr. Maher continues to coordinate the fundraiser.
    • Mr. Maher organized Howard County's involvement with the Maryland State Bar Association's Mock Trial Competition for high school students for the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 competitions.
    • Mr. Maher is an active member of the Young Lawyers Committee of the Howard County Bar Association.
