An Interview with a Weinberg & Schwartz Paralegal

We sat down with Jaclyn Nieberlein, one of the paralegals here at Weinberg & Schwartz.

Jackie, tell us how you came to join the team at W&S?

After graduating college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, I started working at the Circuit Court for Howard County as a civil courtroom clerk to start getting experience in the legal world.  I thought I was more interested in criminal work but after working as a civil/family courtroom clerk, I developed more of

an interest in that field.  I went back to school to get my paralegal certificate to see how cases progressed outside of court.  Shortly after, I started working at a family law firm as a paralegal and after getting a few years’ experience, I started here at W&S thanks to some attorney contacts!

Tell us about a typical day at work?

A typical day at work is juggling many tasks at once from easier to more complicated tasks.  From greeting clients at the front door, to answering phones, scheduling consultations, drafting pleadings and correspondence, monitoring my attorneys’ calendars, making sure we don’t miss deadlines, etc., all while keeping track and prioritizing the most important tasks to be completed on time.

You do a great job every day. Do you have a personal philosophy?

First off, thank you!  We have a great team here at W&S 😊 While my personal philosophy at home is “it is what it is”, I don’t have a personal philosophy at work.  I tend to be pretty easy going and not let things get to me but, I also tend to be hard on myself when managing my work, being sure I get things done on time, and being sure my work is as good as it can be.  These things seem to balance themselves well.

When your friends ask you what you do, how do you explain family law?

I think it’s a fairly simple answer to them – we help families as well as individuals in personal “family” type matters.  As well as helping them plan their “after life” plans by way of Estate planning.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I hope to be right here in this same chair at W&S with tons of experience at hand!
