Ways to Give Thanks

Thanksgiving is a time for everyone to reflect on all of the positive things we fortunate to have in our lives, and to express thanks for every thing that we have. Our office believes it is of the upmost importance to not only express our thanks and gratitude, but also to let our actions and the way we spend our time to show our appreciation. Sometimes our work with our clients, their families, their children, and others is a form of thanks by itself. Our clients often are very thankful for the time and effort that we put in on their behalf. There is really nothing like making a positive impact on someone’s life who truly needs help in that moment. Nonetheless, we also find other ways throughout the year to show our gratitude and thanks for our community in other ways.

Pro Bono Clients. On certain occasions the attorneys of our law firm will agree to take on a new client pro bono. Pro bono is a term that literally means ‘for the public good’. However, the present-day lay definition essentially means that the client will be represented without cost or charge. Often times these clients will have stories and circumstances that truly touch our attorneys and leave us with the feeling that we simply must help them. In some cases, there is evidence of abuse, substance abuse, mental health issues, or significant issues facing children involved. Often times these clients are also from disadvantaged demographic groups or face some other form of hardship that is preventing them from getting the help that they need.

Sponsoring Events. Our office is also often presented with opportunities to be involved in events that raise money for disadvantaged groups. In many of these situations, our attorneys will volunteer their time and effort to sit on boards, planning committees, or set up events. We also regularly pay for sponsorship opportunities for these events. When making a decision about sponsorship, we always consider the groups and organizations that will benefit from our donations.

Direct Volunteer Work. One of the most rewarding ways that our office gives back to our community is by doing direct volunteer work. There is nothing like making a difference to people who truly need and benefit from the assistance of others. Our firm has volunteered both at soup kitchens (directly serving members of our community) and for organizations that prepare meals for the homeless. We have enjoyed all of these opportunities to make a difference, but also to have the opportunity to bond with one another outside of the office.

All of these activities make our office a better place to work and strengthen the relationships between all of us who work there. It also provides all of us with feelings of tremendous satisfaction and pride knowing that we are making a difference for those in need.
